During the years of WWII, this stretch of the Forgotten Coast was a top secret base for amphibious training, particularly for the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Our coast was ideal: minimal population, multiple beaches and islands, and limited access for security.
What we now call Lanark Village was built solidly of brick to serve as officers quarters during training. G.I.'s were in tents, and the most senior officers were in hunting lodges in the forest.
Today, the Village is a study in totally uncontrolled suburban renewal, with no holds barred. Each building has an average of 8 units, and you may see 8 different roofs, 8 different color walls, and 8 different qualities of upkeep. It's one of a kind, a totally casual place to stay.
Our 2-BR unit has a complete kitchen, A/C and cable TV. Sleeps 4 and one sofa.
